A Message from our Presidents:

In the weeks before the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur non affiliated Jews are eager to find a congregation with which they can attend High Holiday services or make a commitment to join with. We are currently in the ‘shul shopping season’.

The internet is a powerful tool to help you find a synagogue that will fill your needs.  Now that you are on our website, we encourage you to look at our calendar page and find a service or activity that fits your schedule and interests you. We highly recommend that you drop in on any of our Friday night or Saturday morning services, a Sisterhood meeting, a knitting group, or a Men’s Club event, or any of our numerous special events. Our calendar gives you a wide range of dates and opportunities to get to know us better.

Our congregation is growing by leaps and bounds and has become home to many Jews who want to find a spiritual base and a place of Jewish tradition and learning in North County.  We pride ourselves on our diverse membership, including a wide range of age and ethnic groups. Please feel free to contact our Secretary, Holly Costello at hcostello@bnaitikvahsd.com or 760-941-9858.

We look forward to meeting you soon.

With kind regards,
Mark Haskell and Gerry Wolfson

During the Torah Service our conversion class will participate fully in all the traditions of the Torah. Individuals who are converting will do separate Aliyahs followed by a group Aliyah. After Saturday, they will present themselves to a Beit Din of at least three Jews, who are known as honorable Jews. The Beit Din will question their Jewish knowledge.

The culmination of the conversion process is the need for a mikvah, which is a purification bath of total immersion. It can be done in any stream of running water or the ocean. Each person who goes through the mikvah needs a sponsor. Any person in our Congregation who wishes to sponsor one of our converts should contact Cantor Larry or Rabbi Ben. Our Conversion Class' Mikvah will take place on the first day of Rosh Hashanah when the congregation goes to Pelican Point at Carlsbad Beach for Tashlich at 2pm.

A Look at our Congregation
There is a movement for Jewish revival afoot across the Jewish world, to make a Jewish life meaningful, joyous, exciting and compelling.  The New Congregation B’nai Tikvah seeks to become a model congregation in enriching Jewish life and in leading Jews back to Judaism. Members are committed to learning and are dedicated to their spiritual and personal growth. Our services, our religious school and our programs reflect our commitment to teaching love and knowledge of God, learning Torah, meaningful Jewish observance, commitment to the Jewish people and to a life filled with good deeds and love of all humanity.

B’nai Tikvah is “trans-denominational” in that our approach reflects and incorporates aspects of several denominations of Judaism. We are very outreach-orientated: our mission is to encourage and include all Jews who are unaffiliated and those who choose Judaism as their faith, religion and spiritual path. We are especially supportive of those who are a part of alternative lifestyles. We do not identify as Reform because of the more traditional nature of our services and our approach to the observance of the commandments.

Our services, school and adult study are informed by the belief in the reality of God. As in the Conservative movement, we aim to strike a careful balance between tradition and change. Our services include traditional modes in worship; our worship service is, however, noticeably shorter than a Conservative service, and we feel a greater latitude in experimenting with certain aspects of the liturgy, unlike most Conservative congregants.
A Look at our Religious School
It is never too early, nor too late, for children to experience the beauty of Shabbat and the bonds of a religious community. Our religious school meets once per week and is vibrant, diverse & caring, led by our religious school director. Students, teachers, administrators, parents & grandparents join together to educate your children, celebrate our heritage & work towards making the world a better place.

We teach your child a rich system of Jewish values, stressing the practice of mitzvot & to develop ethical character.

For the special needs of teenagers, we offer a Post B’nai Mitzvah Program designed to provide hands-on experience in the various aspects of building & maintaining a Jewish community. Teens in this group enjoy a wide variety of stimulating programs that foster intellectual and spiritual growth, leadership skills, a spirit of community service & ultimately, lifelong bonds.
